Connelpark 2007 and the same view 1908. Looking from Hawtrees Cottage towards New Cumnock |
|
|
Not much remains of the original picture compared to the 2007 one. Gone are buildings on the left apart from Trotters which is boarded up and the shop on the right is long gone. |

The Baptist Church, Connelpark. All that remains is the Manse. Can someone tell me when it was demolished please?
If you look to the right of the church you can just make out the old bing which was used to produce the area known as the Lagoons.

A major change since the late 1800 - early 1900's. Gone is Templeton's and in comes McKechnie's Garage. The Afton Buildings and Afton Hotel in the distance were both destroyed by fire in 1963 and a football field (Loch Park) and new houses appear on the left |

First picture taken in 2007 with the now flattened Old Mill on the right sadly missing. I know which view I prefer!
The Old Mill original kindly supplied by Jim Hamilton |

Not the same angle but as the building isnt there it hardly matters. Ardnith House on the right and an empty field on the left where Ardnith proudly stood |
|
|
Major changes in this set. The right hand picture is from 1966 and the newer one 2007. Gone are the large sandstone building and cottage and of course the Afton Bridge has been replaced. Even the bus shelter on the left has not survived |

Wow! Without assistance from our older generation, I would never have located this. The wooden structure was known as Scott's Hut as the family living there were the Scott's. The new house is still in the Scott's family.
Patrick Dornan provided proof that the old house stood from 1924 till 1958

Nothing remains of the Barbers and Bingham's Chippy apart from part of the wall just over the bridge. The old picture shows Smithfield Cottage just beyond the Barbers which was later replaced by the Smithfield building. It also appears that the bridge wall has been rebuilt at some point. Although not visible in the new picture, new bungalows are on the site of the Bankbrae Row on the right as you head up the hill |

Apart from the introduction of the motor vehicle, this picture hasn't change beyond recognition. The cottage on the right has gone and was replaced with flats and partly by Murray's Shop which subsequently was turned into flats or house. The next two white cottages are new but although the third one looks newer, if you look closely, it is in fact the same building . The last one is still there as is the one on the left. The stone wall on the left has gone but remains as you go round the bend. |

The ruin of Craigshiel which sits behind Corsencon and surrounded by forest. On the right is Craigshiel in its hey day |
